- Rufus was born in Dunnville, Ontario in 1888. His father was Rev. Robert MacKnight and mother was Harriet Hattie Burnham Choate from Warsaw, Ontario.
In 1921 he was was the General Manager of the Northern Life Assurance of Canada in London, Ontario. Northern discontinued in 1987. He appeared in a publication that listed him as a Who Is Who in Canada. It appears that he passed away circa 1935 but I have been unable to find an obituary. Although he is listed in the 1965 Voters List for Hastings, Northumberland County.

RUFUS CHOATE MACKNIGHT-Since January, 1921, Mr. Macknight has held his present important position as general manager of the Northern Life Assurance Company, with its home offices in London, Ontario. He was born in Dunnville, Ontario, on October 15, 1888, the son of the Reverend Robert Macknight, a Presbyterian minister of Regina, Saskatchewan. His mother, Harriet Burnham (Choate) Macknight, was of United Empire Loyalist descent. Both parents were born in Canada. Mr. Macknight was educated in the public school and the Collegiate Institute of Peterborough. The first seven years of his business career were spent in the Bank of Commerce, working in different departments. His next connection was with the Northern Life Assurance Company, as registrar, in 1914. From that time he has steadily risen to higher offices. In 1916, he was made treasurer; in 1918, he became super- visor of agencies; in 1919, he advanced to assistant manager; two years later, he was appointed manager, which position he now holds.
Mr. Macknight is a Liberal in politics. He is a member of the Rotary Club, the Canadian Club, and the London Hunt and Country Club. He enjoys all athletic sports.
On April 15, 1915, Marion George Laut became the wife of Rufus Choate Macknight. Mrs. Macknight is the daughter of James and Fannie (Davies) Laut, of London, and a niece of the distinguished Canadian author, Agnes Laut. Mr. and Mrs. Macknight have one son, David Llewellyn. born September 29, 1917. The family are members of the Presbyterian Church. Their residence is at No. 296 Queen's Avenue.
From Facebook: Yes I remember Rufus. My father was a friend of his. He told my father that he was once the General Manager of The North American Life Assurance Company. Apparently the board was discussing selling policies to the public. The feeling was to sell life insurance to any body who would buy insurance. Rufus disagreed and stated that if they didn’t need insurance - don’t sell it to them. He resigned over this disagreement.
